Was not a careful worker at all. Damaged my new front door veneer by chiselling away at it. More importantly, this lock product itself is a beta product, and not ready to be launched yet. Urban Company has taken a product from a chinese manufacturer, disabled all the on-lock features but failed to re-implement them on their app, and is selling this half-baked product to us. But since app is not complete, many built-in features are disabled or not accessible. The "Product Manual" provided with the product is just a childish "getting-started" guide and not an actual product manual with any technical information. For comparison, my other smart lock is from Ozone and it has a proper manual which explains the entire lock menu, installation and factory reset procedure, all product features, all app settings etc. --- Annoyances: ------------------- Dependency on UC App All operation is through UC app, but buried inside it. Even normal operation of lock like entering passage mode is disabled from on-lock buttons. Product manager of UC app must be rubbing their hands together gleefully thinking usage metrics of UC app will shoot up and VCs will reward them, but us lock users have to face the trouble of navigating in the app every time. Either they should have a separate app, or bring these features on main homepage of UC app, or provide widgets to bring key features easily accessible on the phone. Native product team should realise that sometimes its better to just take the manufacturers app and rebrand it like Smartlife does, and as a bonus it would work with everything in that smart ecosystem. Everything does not need to be rebuilt. --- Missing Features: ------------------- 1. Audio prompts are outrightly missing in the direct menu navigation on the lock. On other locks you enter the system menu by pressing the number buttons on the lock, and are guided by audio to press 1 for x, 2 for y. This lock also supports the same (During setup we can press 1-4-6 to navigate to Wifi Settings) but the audio guidance is disabled by UC in software. Super shameful that UC is disabling existing features to force us to use our own purchased hardware only through their app when the hardware itself supports navigation and has buttons on it! This is a dark pattern. 2. Child Lock feature is missing. 3. Passage Mode, PIN, etc is shown in App Menu but these are not yet implemented when you click through in settings. 4. Audio volume level controls are missing. The lock speaks out when unlocked, the audio is too loud for me but the controls are not provided for changing volume. Again this is provided by the manufacturer, just disabled by UC when disabling the on-lock navigation menu, and not implemented on app. 5. RFID card setup is similarly disabled so you can't use your own RFID cards to unlock. All other competitor locks allow you to set up any existing RFID card as a key. 6. Adding new members from lock is disabled. The explanation given by support is that new members need to be added from lock to capture their phone numbers for getting notifications. But there are many people like in-laws whom we need to give access without them needing to receive app notifications. There are maids who need access by fingerprint only during certain working hours, why do they need UC app or mobile notification about who else is coming to our home. All such users are normally added directly from lock in other products but this is not possible in this lock. You can only add through app. All in all, a highly regrettable purchase. I do not recommend it, not at this price and not even as a smart lock, until it matures.
