In a few weeks (or days!) you’re getting officially engaged in front of family and friends. Whether it’s a formal Roka, an exchange of rings or a traditional Gor Dhana ceremony, you’re going to need to invite guests to the event!
You could choose to go for printed invites (if your function is atleast a few weeks away) but a cute or elegant e-vite on Whatsapp or via email is also acceptable.
Engagement Invitation Wording & Message
What should you say on the engagement invite? If you’ve read our
Complete Guide to Wedding Invite Wordings, you know that there’s a host line, request line, RSVP line, etc involved. However, you don’t have to necessarily have all the formal elements of a wedding invite on your engagement invitation. There are plenty of options of what to say on the card – from fun and creative to simple and short – and we’ve listed down 18 examples of engagement invitation wording that you can make your own.

2. FROM PARENTS & SIBLINGS
a) Formal engagement invitation wording from groom’s parents
A formal invite for a formal black tie engagement event. They’ve mentioned the dress code and specified details, which we think is quite helpful as most of us aren’t always sure what “Black Tie” refers to when it comes to Indian wear at weddings!

e) Simple wording for an e-vite sent to friends
You can either send printed invitations, or send an invite over email that replicates the experience of receiving a physical card by using websites such as Paperless Post, etc. This is an engagement invite we created on Minted Weddings, one of the many places
where you can make free wedding and engagement invitations. The wording is simple, crisp and elegant.

f) E-vite from couple that includes family
Another option for creating e-vites is to get free (or reasonable) photo invites on apps such as Canva and Spark Post. Once again, we kept the wording simple and succinct. The final line on this engagement invite hints to the fun that will follow the ring ceremony.

5. Religious Engagement Ceremonies
a) Christian engagement invitation card wordings
We liked how this family decided to get a creative engagement invitation with a quote. Since they are getting married 2 months after the engagement, they mention the church as well as date of their wedding on this card – making it double up as a save the date for their wedding!
This was a printed invitation, and they ended up using their envelope to ask guests to “Save The Date” and invite them to their engagement.

6. When Engagement is Part of Pre-Wedding Celebrations
Not all of us get engaged (or officially exchange rings) months before the wedding. Some of us have the engagement ceremony as part of the whole 2-3 day wedding celebrations! Here’s an interesting way to word your shagun/sagan/ring or engagement ceremony invitation message.
