She is the worst make up artist I came across. The worst experience possible. She had no basic idea of how to do party makeup. Very outdated make up equipments, dirty brushes and sad brands. Both eyes had no symmentry. She insisted on a red eye shadow and the wing eyeliners were completely different for both eyes. Even simple eyebrows were a difficulty for her. Upon telling her that both the eyes r different, she was getting irritated. Eventually she gave me the eyeliner and asked me to do it myself, which I had to do. She was in a lot of hurry. Even her hairstyle was very basic and off! Bad attitude, no skill set, no ideas. Urban companies need to do basic screening of make-up artists before assigning them.

Haseena ji did a wonderful job with my hairstyle and dupatta draping. Everyone loved it and it stayed intact for the whole function. Her attention to detail was amazing and she made sure that everything was perfect, right from mangtika to nath to the hairstyle. Would definitely recommend her to everyone. Service - average But this poor rating is because of punctuality and attitude. I needed the service at 7 am , so I booked for 8 and called to check 5 days in advance if she will be able to provide the service . She said yes definitely she could do that . I also reminded her one day in advance and told her the gravity of the situation that I had my muhroot and needed to leave my house by 7:55, so she should be at my house by 7. On the day of the event , I called her at 7:05 when she had not come by 7. ( I had gotten ready for this service by waking up early and finishing all my work ). On call she told me she could not get a cab and that’s why she is running late by 20 minutes. While it is very rare that you cannot find a cab or auto that early in the morning, I was more irritated by the fact that she did not call to let me know she was getting late. She did not reach by 7.20 , but at 7:45. I had to leave in 15 minutes but I ended up going at 8:30 because the service took 45 minutes. My entire day was spoilt as I depended on her . I have lost trust in someone’s words after working with her . Even when she arrived , she was not at all apologetic. At one point I did think of cancelling the service and going to my event on time but because I had depended on her for saree draping , I was trapped. If you are booking her , please have a back up and do not book if it is an important function .

How to Prepare Before I Get My Makeup Done

Find a button down shirt or top to wear (and put your blouse on beforehand) so that you don’t ruin your makeup and hair when you’re changing.

Find photos of makeup and hairstyles you like for reference - to share with your party MUA so that they can easily understand your preferences. However, do trust them to know what style will suit your skin type and face shape as well, plus complement your outfit.

If you’re getting ready at the venue, ensure your packed your outfit, jewellery, footwear and button down shirt before you leave the house.

If you have a favourite lipstick or any other makeup product you love, carry it along so that the MUA can use it on you.

Do NOT get a facial done in the 1-2 days before your makeup session as one should not get makeup done immediately after that.

If you’re having your saree or dupatta draped, do find reference photos of the draping style you want as well.

You should also prepare a mini touch-up kit with pins, blotting paper, lipstick, moisturiser, foundation and concealer to touch-up at the venue if you need to.

Keep your face moisturised as it helps the makeup to go on smoothly and primes the face so that the makeup doesn’t look cakey (dry skin equals flaking makeup)

How to get the most out of your Party Makeup Artist Booking

If the makeup does not meet your expectations, go ahead and ask the makeup artist to either tone it down or make it bolder.

Check if blemishes, acne marks and pimples are covered to your satisfaction. However, do understand that it’s not possible to completely cover them without making it look unnatural.

Feel free to tell your MUA what you don’t want. For example, you may not want eyelash extensions or a dramatic winged liner - just tell the artist it’s not something you like. She will respect your wishes.

Finally, you can ensure your kajal stays on for longer by using a cotton bud to dry your waterline before applying kajal. And ensure primer is applied on your face and over the eyelids before the makeup goes on to help it last longer.

Ensure the base matches your skin tone.

Check for dry patches where the makeup is flaking. If there are any, ask the MUA to gently dab moisturiser on the area and correct it.

While the makeup artist is getting you ready, feel free to share any worries you might have. Don’t wait till everything is done and then say what you wanted because it’s easier for the MUA to change or fix something as she goes. You most likely will not have time to get it redone later.

For sari draping, do the same thing and move around to check that the pleats don’t open and that it’s easy to sit and stand without opening up the sari.

Check if your hairstyle is holding up well and in place - move your head around to check it’s not opening up

For your hairstyle, it’s important to take note of your comfort level. If a pin is tugging and uncomfortable, tell your hairstylist so that they can move the pins around.
